Charlton Athletic complete agreement to sign a winger, as the club releases latest transfer twist

As the 2025/26 Championship season comes to a conclusion, Charlton Athletic can look back on a consistent season under Nathan Jones, which saw them promoted via the League One play-offs.

The Addicks made a strong start to life in the second tier for the first time in five years, and while Jones was unable to maintain that level of performance, they haven’t been in severe trouble at the other end of the table either.

There were some concerns about being drawn into a relegation battle at the turn of the year, but Charlton’s mostly consistent form throughout the season has placed the South London club in 18th place, eight points clear of the drop zone with only five games remaining.

A productive summer transfer window, following what has turned out to be a rather mixed spending spree last time out, could be exactly what’s needed to propel Charlton further up the table, but they’re already doing business, and a new arrival at the Valley has now been confirmed before the campaign ends.

A recent update confirms a winger’s signing for Charlton Athletic.

The youngster in question is highly-rated prospect Josh Hebert, who has signed a professional contract with Charlton after excelling on trial in recent weeks.

Charlton have signed Hebert from Dorking Wanderers, where the left-sided winger made 13 senior appearances across all competitions this season before trialing with the Addicks’ under-21 squad.

Dorking have now revealed that the 18-year-old has joined Charlton, who have faced stiff competition from Hull City and Reading for his services.

Hebert had made an impression with Dorking’s youth teams and continued to impress during his trial stint with Charlton, when he scored goals against Millwall, Swansea City, Peterborough United, and AFC Bournemouth.

Charlton Athletic will have high expectations for Josh Hebert.

There’s no indication that Hebert will break into Jones’ first-team picture right soon, but the long-term goal is for the teenager to become a Championship star, and he could be in the perfect position to do just that.

Charlton has a promising track record of attracting and developing talent from lower levels of the football pyramid.

Hebert’s reputation in youth-oriented circles, combined with interest from other EFL clubs, implies that Charlton might be landing a huge coup here, with Addicks fans eager to see what the young forward can achieve in the coming years.
