Championship news: Match postponed due to medical emergency, manager appointment confirmed

A medical incident in the stands forced the cancellation of Portsmouth’s home game versus Charlton Athletic. In the 12th minute, the game at The Valley was stopped while paramedics attended to a Pompey fan in the Covered End. After receiving treatment by first responders, the supporter was eventually taken away. At 1:30 pm, the stadium announced that the game had been called off.

Southampton hires manager Tonda Eckert as their next head coach.

After winning four of his five games as interim manager, the former Under-21s manager has agreed to a one-and-a-half-year contract at St Mary’s. The 32-year-old has now been officially confirmed as Will Still’s permanent replacement. Still was fired following Southampton’s 0–2 loss to PNE. He is the ninth manager the team has had since the summer of 2022.

Early kickoff outcomes

Leicester City defeated Derby County 1-3 at home, with all three of the Foxes’ goals occurring in the first half. Before Jordan James and Oliver Skipp struck, Bobby De Cordova-Reid broke the stalemate. Sondre Klingen Langas gave the home team a response shortly after the hour, but it was insufficient to mount a comeback.

In other news, Watford defeated Norwich City 3-2 in a thrilling five-goal match. Josh Sargent and Oscar Schwartau’s goals gave the Canaries the lead twice in the match. However, winger Tom Ince scored the game-winning goal on minute 78 after Luca Kjerrumgaard had equalized twice.

Blackburn vs. Sheffield Wednesday, Bristol City vs. Millwall, Ipswich vs. Coventry, PNE vs. Wrexham, QPR vs. West Brom, Sheffield United vs. Stoke, Southampton vs. Birmingham, and Swansea vs. Oxford are all scheduled to kick off at 15:00 in the Championship.
