Championship match suspended due to crowd emergency as players leave pitch

The Championship match between Charlton and Portsmouth was abruptly halted owing to an emergency in the stands.

Saturday’s noon contest at The Valley ended goalless after 15 minutes when referee Matthew Donohue halted play.

This occurred due to a medical emergency in the Covered End Lower, Charlton’s North Stand.

After a five-minute break, both sets of players were removed from the field as a supporter continued to receive treatment.

Charlton and Portsmouth both competed in the Championship’s lower divisions.

Pompey is in the relegation zone, third from bottom, while the Addicks are six points ahead of their opponents in 17th.

After 15 minutes, there had been no additional updates on the medical issue or when play would restart.
