Since they visited the San Siro during their run to the Champions League semi-final last season, Arsenal supporters will be eager to visit Inter Milan again in the upcoming campaign. However, they will have to enjoy their trip to the Nerazzurri this time around because they won’t be able to do so the following season.
Although Arsenal won the rest of their league phase games to finish third in the standings, their only defeat from the beginning of their journey was against Simone Inzaghi’s team last season. They then lost to Paris Saint-Germain in the semi-final, with a penalty kick from Hakan Calhanoglu serving as the game-winning goal back in November.
Arsenal will not be permitted to play against Inter Milan at the San Siro next season.
In what appears to be their most difficult test of the season, they will travel to the San Siro once more, this time in January 2026, after the draw for this season’s competition was made last week.
Fans must make the most of their journey to the San Siro, though, because if Inter is drawn for the 2026–2027 season, they won’t be allowed to return in the league phase. Their only chance to play at the Mediterranean relic would be to visit ground-sharers AC Milan.
In essence, a UEFA rule change has prevented them from playing the Serie A powerhouses away from home the following season. The Club Competitions Committee has decided that a particular fixture between the same two teams cannot be played again in the same competition with the same home team for three seasons.
Any journey to the Lombardian giant will be disqualified because Arsenal has already played there both this season and last. The knockout stages or if AC Milan advance to the league stage are the only other ways Mikel Arteta’s team might play there the following season. Because it isn’t being hosted at a different location, the rule doesn’t negate Inter’s ability to play at the Emirates Stadium.
The Emirates Stadium would host the game if they were drawn against one another, and one of Arsenal’s home games might be moved to an away venue.
Since Real Madrid fell 2-0 at Anfield last season before visiting Merseyside again in early November, the law also prohibits them from visiting Liverpool the following season.
