With Celtic, Daizen Maeda had an incredible February, making his Scottish Premiership Player of the Month award all but certain. The Japanese attacker helped propel Celtic to the verge of another championship victory by scoring six league goals and dishing out two assists in five Premiership games during the month. He also scored a Scottish Cup hat-trick and was among Celtic’s best players against Bayern Munich in a thrilling Champions League knockout match.
What does he think of it all? He is usually concentrated, resolute, and more concerned with future rewards than with past achievements.
“The team is doing well and because of that I can score the goals,” Maeda said to Celtic TV through an interpreter after earning the award in February. So, yes, I’m rather happy with the team’s performance.
“I simply keep doing what I’ve always done. Yes, all of the games were very significant to me since I always try to work hard and give it my all during each game.
“We still have a chance to win the treble and that’s our aim as a team, so yeah, we will try to work hard as a team towards that.”
Maeda responds to the interviewer’s congrats and insightful questions with the same tenacity with which he pursues the opponents.
This season, he has a purpose to complete, therefore he can’t afford to take it easy.
The well-liked Celtics player is expected to receive numerous honours by the end of May. He is currently in the lead to win a number of yearly gongs.
With little indication that he will be slowing down anytime soon, Maeda is likely to have the best season of his career and surpass the 30-goal mark.
