Celtic F.C. coach Brendan Rodgers provided his entire response to the contract situation and outlined his January transfer strategy.

Brendan Rodgers gives an update on Celtic contract discussions and his January transfer prospects.

Brendan Rodgers has once again addressed speculation surrounding his future at Celtic.

The manager returned to Parkhead in June 2023, with a three-year contract slated to end next summer. Despite conversations with CEO Michael Nicholson and majority shareholder Dermot Desmond during the summer, no agreement was achieved on an extension.

Rodgers has made it clear that he intends to finish his current deal and will not walk away, like he did in 2019. However, during his pre-Hibs press conference  Last week, the Hoops manager admitted that there had been no improvement.

When asked if there was an update, Rodgers simply answered, “There is nothing as of yet, no.”

The Celtic manager was also pressed on his recruitment ambitions following a difficult summer window in which the team scrambled on deadline day and failed to sign a striker to replace Adam Idah, who joined Swansea City. Attempts to arrange reduced-price deals for other targets were eventually unsuccessful.

Looking ahead to January, Rodgers believes that lessons have been learnt.

“Yeah, I really hope so,” he said. “At the moment, the scouting team knows exactly what we’re looking for and what we missed out on over the summer. That requires a significant amount of labour. It’s a shorter window, therefore you must be prepared, organised, and ready to get things done as soon as possible. Hopefully, we can finish that better in January.”
