Liverpool’s hard-fought victory over Leicester City on Sunday afternoon puts them within one victory of winning the Premier League title. The Reds entered the King Power Stadium match with the expectation of handily defeating their opponents, who have been having a difficult season and had been near the bottom of the table.
But even though they were on opposite sides of the table, Leicester fought hard and kept the league leaders dissatisfied for a large portion of the game. However, with just 14 minutes left in the game, the home team’s resolve was broken.
Following some pinball inside the area, Trent Alexander-Arnold received the ball and used his left foot to blast it into the back of the net. Liverpool managed to hold onto all three points by holding Leicester at bay for the rest of the game.
After winning at Leicester, Carragher talks about Trent Alexander-Arnold.
He believes that this season, he shouldn’t start for Liverpool again.

After scoring the game-winning goal, Alexander-Arnold went crazy. After the game, the 26-year-old was asked about his future, but he declined to comment. It is unclear if he will be a Liverpool player past this summer.
After the match, Carragher praised Alexander-Arnold but advised Arne Slot to bench him for the remainder of the season. According to Goal, he stated on Sky Sports: “You can’t replace him because of who he is. He’s different and unique, which is why we talk about him so much and why he’s probably the most talked-about full-back we’ve ever seen in the Premier League.
“You just mentioned [Micah Richards]’s defensive prowess. Now, most elite full-backs don’t get told that they’re not very good defensively. However, his skill on the ball is so different that, as I believe I mentioned four or five years ago, it feels like Kevin De Bruyne playing right-back. Liverpool won’t replace him because he can come on and transform games.
Therefore, Liverpool must replace his inventiveness; they won’t be able to do so from a right-back position; instead, they might need to do so from an attacking midfield or left-wing position. The team must therefore change in that manner. Conor Bradley is a right-back now, so they can replace him. Trent is not someone Conor Bradley should aspire to be like. The Liverpool full-backs like to overlap, get crosses in, and underlap, so he must be like Andy Robertson in his best days. He must be a real full-back who is combative towards the winger and up and down.
“You can’t replace him, so forget about that. However, Liverpool has a big decision to make, or a few decisions to make between now and the end of the season, and the summer is… Trent shouldn’t be starting games if he hasn’t made a commitment to the management for the upcoming season, which he certainly hasn’t. He shouldn’t be…”
Then, Carragher gave his reasoning for believing Alexander-Arnold should spend the rest of the season on the bench. He went on: “As a football team, Liverpool is not here to send someone off. You have a young player in Conor Bradley. It’s not like we’re discussing a 27- or 28-year-old player; rather, we’re discussing a young player who had a difficult first 15 to 20 minutes of play, which is a necessary component of developing into an experienced player.
“I experienced that in certain games, and Gary [Neville], who is commentating, would have experienced similar circumstances. ‘Let’s give Trent a send-off.’ is not the point. We need to determine if Conor Bradley is the right player for us to play every week in the upcoming season.
“Because when it comes to Trent’s future, Liverpool will have to decide whether to make Conor Bradley their first-choice right-back and acquire a backup who may be a utility player or a centre-back. Or: “Will Conor Bradley have to contend with a first-choice right-back that we’re purchasing?”
In other words, the boy needs as much experience as he can acquire. If you need to go and win the game, perhaps against Spurs or a few weeks later, then sure, bring him on like you did tonight. However, Conor Bradley ought to start every game at this point if Trent hasn’t committed to the team, which he clearly hasn’t.”
When Liverpool hosts Tottenham at Anfield on Sunday, April 27, they will play their next game. The Reds will secure their second Premier League championship with a victory. It is unclear if Alexander-Arnold will start or if he will once again have to be content with a bench spot.
