Carabao Cup draw simulator: Arsenal handed tough away test, Liverpool get glamour tie

Arsenal, Liverpool, and Manchester City are among the teams announced for the Carabao Cup third round draw on Wednesday night.

The Carabao Cup third round draw takes place on Wednesday evening, and our simulation of the draw produced some intriguing results for Liverpool, Arsenal, and Manchester City.

All three teams are on the nine-team list that has gained automatic qualification for the third round by competing in European events.

The second round of fixtures began on Tuesday night, with Premier League teams Sunderland, Leeds, West Ham, and Bournemouth all eliminated.

Wrexham, Southampton, Millwall, and Swansea advanced in the Championship, while Birmingham and Stoke suffered unexpected home defeats to newly promoted League One opponents Port Vale and Bradford, respectively.

On Wednesday, Everton will face League Two Mansfield, while Manchester United will go to Grimsby Town, another fourth-tier team.

The third round draw will take place following the later fixture, which will be aired live on Sky Sports beginning at 8 p.m.

Before the draw, we ran our own simulation, which yielded some interesting results.

Wrexham’s trip to Premier League champions Liverpool is surely one of the draw’s highlights.

Phil Parkinson’s team won on penalties against Hull in the first round before coming from behind twice to defeat Preston North End 3-2 at Deepdale on Tuesday.

In our simulation, Arsenal face Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park, while Manchester City go to Burnley in what promises to be an exciting game.

Another Premier League matchup pits Aston Villa against Wolves, while the winner of Everton versus Mansfield will travel to Championship crisis team Sheffield Wednesday.

The Owls defeated first-division opponents in Leeds on penalties on Tuesday, despite fielding four players whose sole senior football experience comes from this season’s league.
