Bryan Mbeumo’s future takes surprise twist as Man Utd’s Premier League rivals step in to hijack deal

According to reports, a second Premier League club has expressed interest in signing Manchester United target Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford.

David Ornstein of The Athletic stated on Monday that Mbeumo wants to transfer to Old Trafford this summer.

If the Cameroon international joins United, he will become the club’s second signing of the window, following Ruben Amorim’s £62.5 million signing of Matheus Cunha from Wolves.

Mbeumo scored 20 Premier League goals this season, his highest individual season with the Bees in any category.

While it appeared like there would be few impediments to the relocation, one has suddenly emerged, and it may not surprise enthusiasts.

According to The Sun, Tottenham has entered the battle to get Mbeumo and is willing to pay £60 million to lure him to north London.

Spurs fired Ange Postecoglou on Friday and have been highly connected with hiring Thomas Frank, Mbeumo’s current Brentford manager, as his replacement.

It is said that Frank is ‘open’ to a move after nearly seven years at Brentford, and Spurs are willing to pay the £10 million compensation clause in his contract.

If the Dane does switch clubs, his first target is thought to be Mbeumo, with Spurs having an advantage over United in that they can offer him Champions League football.

It would be their second summer acquisition, following a £20 million obligation to buy centre-back Kevin Danso, as they seek to bolster their squad in preparation for a return to Europe’s premier continental competition.

Spurs won the Europa League by defeating United 1-0 in Bilbao last month, but that was insufficient to maintain Postecoglou in his position.

That decision was not well received by many Spurs fans, with many pointing out that chairman Daniel Levy made no mention of the Australian manager in either his post-season review or the press release accompanying the dismissal announcement.
