Following Wayne Rooney’s goal-scoring return to Manchester United at Old Trafford, Bruno Fernandes delivered a message.

The former striker for the Reds made an appearance for the United Legends in Saturday’s charity match at Old Trafford versus Celtic. The squad from the Scottish Premiership held the United team, captained by legendary player Bryan Robson, to a 1-1 draw before winning the subsequent penalty shootout 5-4.

Several former United players, including Rooney, were in the squad for the charity match, which aided in the fundraising efforts for the Manchester United Foundation. Darren Fletcher, the first-team coach of United, Antonio Valencia, Paul Scholes, Michael Carrick, Dimitar Berbatov, and other former Plymouth Argyle players were present for the game.

Rooney gave the United Legends the game’s lone goal, sending a free kick on the edge of the penalty area into the top corner. Celtic Legends, who were coached by former Premier League manager Paul Lambert, scored a goal by Gary Hooper.

After United uploaded a video of Rooney’s goal to their Instagram stories, Fernandes used the same platform to deliver a message. The United captain captioned the video with a GIF of Homelander, the character played by Antony Starr in the TV series The Boys, stating, “Perfect.”

While currently serving for Portugal on international duty, Fernandes may make an appearance in their Nations League match against Scotland on Sunday night. The captain of United already participated in the entire 90 minutes of Thursday night’s victory against Croatia, and he is expected to feature when the Reds meet Southampton in the Premier League on Saturday.

After the game, Rooney gave an explanation of why it meant so much to him to score in a significant match that benefits the neighbourhood.

Rooney stated on the United website, “It was great to be back at Old Trafford today for the Legends game, and it is all for such a good cause.” “Playing here once more was fantastic.

“The Manchester United Foundation is doing a fantastic job and has been active for a long time. Having personally witnessed the work it does, we think it’s terrific to give everything we can to try and help. It’s a worthwhile cause.

“It is important that we continue to do what we can, when we can, to support the Foundation and continue to put smiles on children’s faces.”
