The captain of Manchester United has stirred some controversy on social media with his response to Rashford’s performance.
Following Marcus Rashford’s Champions League performance for Barcelona, Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes swiftly resorted to social media.
La Liga winners Barcelona travelled to St. James’ Park on Thursday night to play Newcastle United, starting their 2025–26 Champions League campaign.
Hansi Flick’s team was under pressure to win the difficult road game since Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain, and Liverpool, the other competition favourites, had all won their opening games.
As the game neared the hour mark, a victory for the Spanish powerhouses was far from assured following a cagey first half in which the hosts had many opportunities.
However, Rashford’s incredible effort swiftly improved the visitors’ chances, prompting Manchester United captain Fernandes to post his immediate response on social media.
Rashford’s future was obviously out of Old Trafford after a public altercation with Ruben Amorim shortly after the manager joined United in November.
Although Rashford was linked to Aston Villa, a team in the Premier League, whom he briefly loaned to in January, the 27-year-old ultimately made his ideal move to Barcelona.
Rashford’s career has also gotten off to a great start, as he scored two goals to help his new team defeat Newcastle in the Champions League on Thursday night.
After a chip from Jules Kounde, Rashford neatly headed the ball into the net in the 57th minute to score his first goal of the game.
Ten minutes later, Rashford hit a fantastic goal that left Newcastle United custodian Nick Pope helpless and gave Barcelona the victory, doubling his total for the evening.

Given that Rashford’s chilly relationship with Amorim made his summer departure from United anything but cordial, Fernandes’ response to the Englishman’s performance has generated conversation among supporters on social media.
One fan commented on X in response to Fernandes’ post: “This guy is a snake and it’s obvious he doesn’t like Amorim and wants him out.”
Another person added, “This just shows the injustice Rashford faced from Amorim in the locker room.”
