Chelsea fans have spoken out against Alejandro Garnacho after he made his Premier League debut.
Chelsea, who were recently charged by the FA with a number of violations, returned to the Premier League following the September international break undefeated, having won two and drawn one of their first three league games under manager Enzo Maresca’s second season.
In the early parts of their road game against Brentford, there was little to differentiate the sides. With roughly 10 minutes of regular time remaining, Chelsea were exposed in the transition thanks to a fantastic Jordan Henderson ball that freed Kevin Schade, who tapped past Robert Sanchez in the Chelsea goal.
Chelsea opened the second half on top, making three substitutions at halftime and attacking their opponents. On the hour mark, Cole Palmer, one of the half-time substitutions, fired an equalizer past Caoimhin Kelleher.
Palmer, who scored his first open-play goal since January, came close to scoring again in the 75th minute, but was thwarted by a terrific Kelleher save. However, 10 minutes later, Moises Caicedo sent a long-range strike past the Irish shot-stopper, giving Chelsea the lead they earned after a strong second-half display.
In the third minute of stoppage time, however, Fabio Carvalho knocked the ball into the net after a long throw from Schade, securing a point for the home team.
Chelsea, who have been known to make additions in recent years, welcomed nine new faces to Stamford Bridge this summer, with forward Joao Pedro, wingers Jamie Gittens and Alejandro Garnacho, and defender Jorrel Hato among the most notable.
Garnacho, who joined Chelsea from Manchester United for £40 million, made his debut against Brentford in the 79th minute. In light of this, many Blues supporters turned to X, formerly known as Twitter, to express their emotions about Garnacho.
Garnacho will ‘fit in quickly’.
Garnacho had just 11 minutes of regular time to make an effect on Chelsea fans, and it seems reasonable to think that the Argentina international will have a stronger influence in games in which he plays for longer periods.
Despite only being on the pitch for a brief time, the 21-year-old had an immediate effect. While it may not be considered an assist, Garnacho’s ball across the box was spooned out to Caicedo, who scored as the ball approached him.
Though they may be frustrated with the outcome, Chelsea fans were clearly impressed by Garnacho’s individual performance, as he created multiple opportunities before the final whistle.
“Garnacho did well in the lead up to the goal in fairness to him.”
“Phenomenal hit, after some good wing play from Garnacho.”
Garnacho received a lot of acclaim, with one fan saying the winger had a “instant impact” on the game and another saying he did “more than Gittens did in 55 minutes with that action,” alluding to Garnacho’s play in the buildup to Chelsea’s second goal.
Garnacho is not only a young player, but also has previous Premier League experience. As a result, the winger will not have to spend time adapting to the physical demands of the English top flight, making him a potentially solid alternative for the Stamford Bridge side.
Garnacho has stiff competition for a starting berth out wide in Maresca’s system due to Chelsea’s depth, but his performance against Brentford will undoubtedly help him make a positive first impression on his new manager.
