BREAKING: The real reason Luke McCowan was deployed out of position in Celtic’s clash against Feyenoord has now been revealed

Interim Celtic manager Martin O’Neill has explained why Luke McCowan began in an odd position against Feyenoord tonight.

When the Bhoys traveled to Rotterdam in the Europa League, McCowan, a natural central midfielder, started on the right wing of a front three.

Yang Hyun-jun was given the nod on the left side while Daizen Maeda played through the middle.

“I think the balance is something you are trying to grasp all the time,” O’Neill told Celtic TV before his team’s heroic 3-1 victory. “Since [James] Forrest has left the squad, we don’t have somebody who can play out and out on the right side.

“So we need someone to play the reversed role, which Luke [McCowan] can accomplish. He made a terrific impression on Saturday night [against St Mirren], and Yang contributed to the goal in a variety of ways.

“In general, the goal is for participants to demonstrate their abilities. Yang possesses talent, and the goal is to develop that talent on a weekly basis rather than once in a lifetime.

Celtic return to domestic play at Easter Road against Hibernian this weekend, following their stunning European success tonight.
