Thomas Tuchel has expanded his England backroom staff after assuming leadership of the Three Lions following the conclusion of the Nations League tournament.
Thomas Tuchel, the newly appointed England manager, has recruited former Chelsea goalkeeper Henrique Hilario and two additional instructors to finalize his coaching team.
Tuchel, 51, formally commenced his position with the FA on Thursday, nearly three months subsequent to his appointment as Gareth Southgate’s permanent successor.
The German, the third foreign manager in England’s history, let interim manager Lee Carsley to conclude this year’s Nations League campaign, during which the Three Lions topped their group and achieved promotion. The attention now turns to the World Cup qualifiers, in which England will compete against Serbia, Albania, Latvia, and Andorra.
Tuchel’s inaugural encounter will occur at Wembley against Albania on Friday, March 21. Until this week, it was only known that he would be accompanied in the dugout by assistant manager Anthony Barry.
Barry, a distinguished coach, has previously collaborated with Tuchel at Chelsea and Bayern Munich, and most recently worked with Roberto Martinez for the Portugal national team.
Hilario, who represented Chelsea from 2006 until 2014 and subsequently returned as a coach two years later, has been appointed to Tuchel’s coaching team as a goalie coach, alongside Nicolas Mayer and James Melbourne.
Mayer, a French performance coach, initially partnered with Tuchel at Paris Saint-Germain prior to their reunion at Bayern. Melbourne has served as Chelsea’s chief analyst for the previous decade, having joined the club 20 years prior.
England’s football management has announced that additional coaching appointments are forthcoming, with Carsley and his colleagues poised to recommence their roles within the under-21 structure.
New boss Tuchel is prepared for a series of Premier League matches in anticipation of the March qualifiers, including a significant confrontation with Latvia.
Tuchel is set to personally evaluate players at the forthcoming Tottenham versus Newcastle encounter, commencing at 12:30 on Saturday. In a humorous remark to Sky Sports, the London-based Tuchel stated, “I will not disclose my address!” Otherwise, you will be outside my residence weekly! I have a fondness for you, but to a limited extent.
He further affirmed his dedication by stating, “We will frequently be at St George’s Park [the FA’s national football centre] as it serves as our base, where we aim to cultivate an atmosphere and engage with all FA personnel.” We desire to engage with them, to utilize quality, and to experience the environment.
Focusing on the future, Tuchel stated, “We will observe numerous matches commencing in January.” I wish to observe the matches in real-time and engage with the players, while ensuring I do not disrupt their focus on their club responsibilities. We will frequently appear in stadiums starting in January.
