During Marcus Rashford’s downfall at Old Trafford, a number of Manchester United legends are said to have sought out to him, but it looks like there may not be much time left.
Rio Ferdinand, Wayne Rooney, and David Beckham, all legendary players for Manchester United, have reportedly reached out to the underperforming forward in an effort to stop his current downward trend.
After being banished by Ruben Amorim, Rashford, 27, looks destined to leave Old Trafford, either in the days ahead or later this summer. He “needs to change” to have any future with the club where he has devoted over two decades of his life, the manager has warned his outcast.
According to a January 2024 article in The Sun, United employees had expressed worries about the forward’s purported “party lifestyle” as early as 2021. Shortly after allegedly going on an all-day, drunken binge in Belfast, Rashford called in sick to training and was benched for an FA Cup match against Newport County.
According to the same story, Rashford was contacted 12 months ago by Beckham and fellow Red Devils icon Ferdinand as a kind of intervention. Although it seems his position has hardened, former teammate Rooney, who had his share of public scandal as a player, was also sympathetic at the time.
Rashford must feel “embarrassed” after being forced to practice apart from the team at Carrington, according to Rooney, 39. Additionally, United’s all-time top scorer, who previously believed Rashford might surpass his total, has advised his former teammate to leave Old Trafford if he wants a new beginning.
“I went into Carrington on Sunday to take my kids to game day and Marcus Rashford was out on the training pitch with the fitness coach, but he was right over towards where the parents were walking past for the kids’ games,” Rooney told the podcast Stick to Football. “As parents passed by, I thought of how awkward that must be for him.
“After spoken with Marcus a few times, I’ve expressed to him my opinion that he should quit the football team because, regardless of his personal circumstances, he isn’t the same at Manchester United. He needs to leave the club in order to start over.

Rashford was left out of Thursday’s team to play FCSB, and he hasn’t played for United since a Europa League match against Viktoria Plzen on December 12. Barcelona has reportedly expressed interest, but the player’s £300,000 weekly salary makes any loan agreement extremely difficult to fund.
Roy Keane, another United alumnus, has been far more adamant in his opinions and stated that Rashford “must be ashamed” of himself after his downfall. The Irishman couldn’t understand Rashford’s poor training habits, regardless of the cause of his recent form slump.
“I can’t get involved in the conversation, I still can’t understand at any level,” said Keane on the Stick to Football podcast. “Whatever’s going on with players leaving, months left on contracts, a player who doesn’t train properly. . .I don’t understand it.
“You might as well leave me out of this conversation. Particularly if you believe he wants to move, which is more of an excuse to train well so you’re up to speed when you join a new club and you at least left with a respectable demeanour. He must feel embarrassed.
