Despite rumours that he might be one of the players Chelsea sells in the upcoming months, Marc Cucurella has stated that he does not intend to leave the club this summer. This occurs as the Blues are getting closer to acquiring a new young defender who can play on the left.

Renato Veiga, a 20-year-old prodigy from Basel, is scheduled to have his medical at Cobham following the agreement of a £14 million deal, as football.london understands. Aaron Anselmino, the centre back for Boca Juniors, is also anticipated to fetch a cost of £17 million, however he is probably going to stay in Argentina for the upcoming season.

Under Todd Boehly-Clearlake Capital, the actions carry on a massive youth recruitment effort that has gained momentum over the past two summers. Despite the sales of other highly recognised players, it leaves a plethora of bright young players in reserve throughout the field. Lewis Hall (£28 million) and Ian Maatsen (£37.5 million) have vacated the position of left defender.

Even while playing in bad form, Cucurella, who signed for £62 million in the first summer of the new ownership’s tenure, has so far outlasted the best of Cobham. He appears to have a berth under Enzo Maresca in 2024–2025 and is now making an impression with Spain at Euro 2024.

Even with his improved play so far this season, Chelsea is still exploring alternative possibilities, so he might still leave. Twelve months ago, Cucurella was about to go, but injuries prevented Mauricio Pochettino from taking over, and Cucurella was given another opportunity.

He has now revealed some details about his potential future. “La Liga is my home, but I’m very happy in England,” he declared prior to Spain’s Tuesday semi-final matchup with France. “Which is a great experience for me and my family.”

Cucurella had come through the Barcelona system and then joined Getafe, where he attracted interest from a number of clubs, including Chelsea, and Brighton. Despite Manchester City’s interest in him at the time, the Seagulls grabbed him up and made a huge profit when they sold him to Stamford Bridge.

Since then, things have generally been bad, so many of the people who have supported him through hard times may become irritated by his remarks indicating a home away from SW6. Even Gary Neville made fun of him prior to the competition, but he overcame the remarks to produce a powerful body of work in Germany. The former Manchester United defender remarked, “That price tag still, to be fair, astounds everybody I think to this day.”

“The Spanish defence has a great deal of experience today, but there’s still something that seems to be lacking that gives you the impression that Spain will win everything. And to be honest, the fact that Cucurella plays left back is perhaps another factor in our belief.”

Spain has played some of the best football in the competition under Luis de la Fuente, focusing on youth all over the pitch. Most notably, he has depended on teenage sensation Lamine Yamal and 21-year-old Nico Williams for the wings.

Football player Williams is someone Chelsea really admires.London is aware of this, and discussions have been undertaken over a potential summer transfer. But at this point, any movement towards a move is improbable given the Basque player’s wage demands.

Cucurella clarified in regards to his partnership with Williams, saying, “The synergy is centred off the field. Without even trying, we discovered it. We are content individuals with comparable characteristics. Allow him to create; I’ll help out where I can.”

After Euro 2024, Cucurella will be looking to form similar relationships with his Chelsea teammates.
