According to the most recent reports out of Spain, Man Utd has made Ronald Araujo of Barcelona a very attractive contract offer.
A story from AS today (news image below) claims that the current state of the market is having a significant impact on Uruguayan internationals.
The South American and the Blaugrana reached a new contract two years ago that included a billion-euro release clause.
Araujo currently receives a weekly salary of about £124,000.
Man Utd has, however, recently made a “offer” to significantly raise the central defender’s pay.
Although it is said that the Red Devils have “bet heavily” on the player, Bayern Munich has also placed a strong bid, so they are not the only team in the running.
According to AS, these suggestions prompted Araujo’s representatives to get in touch with Barcelona and discuss a contract enhancement that has, in part, distracted the center back.
Barca was eliminated from the Champions League after his red card against Paris Saint-Germain, and he performed mediocrely in the victory over Valencia on Monday.
Owing to severe financial difficulties, Barcelona needs to raise €86 million, or €100 million, in order to improve their books.
Araujo is reportedly one of the few players in the team who can fetch them the £86 million fee, according to the Madrid-based media outlet.
The 25-year-old may end up leaving the Catalan giants this summer due to distractions from pressure from offers from Manchester United and Bayern.
Do you think Man Utd should agree to a big contract in order to sign Ronald Araujo?
