Breaking News: Jamie Carragher calls for Arsenal star to be BANNED after Newcastle incident

Jamie Carragher slammed David Raya for his costly error in Arsenal’s Carabao Cup semi-final defeat to Newcastle

Despite leading 1-0, Newcastle continued to press for another goal, and Arsenal’s defensive shakiness was apparent when David Raya was responsible for their second goal.

Following his costly error against Newcastle, Jamie Carragher attacked David Raya of Arsenal, saying that goalkeepers should not be allowed to make dangerous passes into midfielders.

With the Gunners far off the pace at St James’ Park, Newcastle eliminated Arsenal from the Carabao Cup with a 4-0 aggregate loss in the semi-finals, denying them a trip to Wembley.

Newcastle had a 2-0 lead from the first leg going into this match, and supporters may have been concerned that Arsenal would undo their lead.

However, after excellent work from Alexander Isak, the Magpies swiftly gained control of the match and led through Jacob Murphy in the first half.

Even though they were defending their lead, Newcastle persisted in trying to score as Arsenal’s defensive shakiness persisted, and Raya was responsible for their second goal.

Raya wanted to start from the back, but instead he passed to Declan Rice, who had Newcastle players breathing down his neck and pressing hard.

The unrelenting Fabian Schar caught Rice in possession, and Anthony Gordon had the easy job of slotting home after his tackle.

Raya’s mistake allowed Anthony Gordon to make it 2-0 on the night

In his tweet following the match, Carragher criticised Raya’s decision-making, saying, “Keepers need to be banned from playing those passes into midfield players.”

Gary Neville attacked center-backs Gabriel and William Saliba for being left “on toast” by Alexander Isak, so Raya’s performances weren’t the only ones scrutinised.

“It’s all about Isak,” he observed on commentary after witnessing Isak terrorise the defensive duo to spark Newcastle’s opening goal. He is teasing the centre backs for Arsenal.

“Watch him take on Saliba; he believes he has the upper hand and pops it around the corner.

“What a strike it is, and it’s a stroke of luck that the pass goes to Murphy instead of him. However, he has Saliba and Gabriel on toast.
