Charlie Webster, a young midfield player for Chelsea, has officially signed a permanent contract with League One team Burton Albion, ending his ten-year tenure at Stamford Bridge.

The twenty-year-old began playing for Chelsea at the under-10 level and has been a member of the development team since he was eighteen years old. Although he never played for the club in the first team, he was occasionally used as a substitute in cup matches.

Webster played 13 games and scored one goal while on loan at Heerenveen in the Eredivisie last season. He now has a three-year deal with the Brewers signed.

He will now work with Mark Robinson, the former manager of Chelsea’s development squad who took over as Burton’s manager earlier this summer. Webster discussed getting back together with the coach in an interview on the team’s website.

“It was a big thing for me to know that Mark Robinson was going to be our head coach,” he remarked. We had a wonderful friendship at Chelsea. What matters most, in my opinion, is that he is a man of high morals and values who genuinely cares about his players.”

In addition, the midfield player used social media to address Chelsea following his transfer. “Thank you, Chelsea Football Club.” He posted a picture of himself as a young child wearing the Chelsea shirt on Instagram along with the caption, “A beautiful decade: years that will never be forgotten.”

It has been an honour to be able to call Chelsea home since I was nine years old. I’ve always thought of football as a journey, and I’m honoured that the club has contributed so much to my life and career thus far. I hope the best for every member of the staff, players, coaches, and supporters.
