Chelsea has already demonstrated in the transfer market that they aren’t scared to spend big money.
According to reports, Chelsea has entered the competition to sign Red Bull Salzburg and Austrian defender Strahinja Pavlovic, a player gaining recognition in the football community.
Newcastle United had reportedly been dominating the hunt for the 23-year-old, according to teamTALK, but Red Bull is seeking a price of about £25 million, which has allowed teams like Chelsea and Brentford to enter the picture.
If the agreement is finalised, Chelsea will have humiliated Newcastle twice this summer after snatching Tosin Adarabioyo right under Newcastle’s nose. The former Fulham defender was strongly expected to sign with Eddie Howe’s team, but after learning of Chelsea’s interest, he reversed course, ended talks with Newcastle, and signed with Chelsea a few days later.
Chelsea already has Benoit Badiashile, but they are aware that the team has been beleaguered by injuries lately, having had the most injuries during Mauricio Pochettino’s tenure as manager last season. The left-sided central defender might be a perfect signing for Chelsea as they want to bolster their defence. Thiago Silva left the squad after his contract expired, so as the backline enters a new chapter, a worthy successor must be sought.
Pavlovic is remarkably within the age range of what Chelsea is developing, and considering the sums they have previously spent on other players, the £25 million transfer is not viewed as extraordinarily high. With the confirmation of Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Omari Kellyman, Marc Guiu, and Estêvão Willian (who won’t join the team until he turns 18 next summer), the Blues have already had a very busy summer.
