According to reports, Chelsea is willing to deviate from their policy of only signing young players in the instance of Ivan Toney. Although Tottenham is also interested in the Brentford striker, the big-spending Blues appear to have the upper hand due to their maximum valuation.

Since Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital took over Chelsea in 2022, a plethora of players 25 years of age or younger have been brought in. However, the Londoners run the risk of missing out on European qualification for a second straight season due to a lack of experience on the field.

Mauricio Pochettino’s team is still lacking up top despite their outrageous spending, as Nicolas Jackson has largely failed to win over supporters in his first campaign. TBR claims that Chelsea is considering Toney as a possible fix.

Chelsea’s “25 or younger” requirement would not normally apply to the 28-year-old, but according to the same report, they would be willing to bend the rules in order to bring in goals and experience through the middle.

After serving a lengthy suspension, Toney has only managed four goals in 14 Premier League games this season. Spurs are reportedly willing to pay up to £40 million for him. However, Brentford is rumored to be seeking well over £50 million.

Tottenham may be in for some difficulties as a result of Chelsea entering the race, as Boehly hasn’t refrained from opening his wallet since moving to Stamford Bridge.

His high-profile additions include the misfiring Mykhaylo Mudryk on the wing, as well as Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo, who signed for a combined £222 million. As Toney’s agents race to find him a new club, the battle for his services is expected to be fierce this summer.

It is rumored that Manchester United and Arsenal have lost interest in the England international. Additionally, West Ham is expected to present Chelsea with the strongest competition, as Tottenham has proposed a low maximum bid.

With 20 Premier League goals in the previous campaign, Toney surpassed only Harry Kane and Erling Haaland in the division’s scoring standings. Although the Brentford player’s production has decreased this season, he is still a skilled shooter in the English premier league.

Toney has scored in double figures in each and every league season since going out on loan to League One in 2016–17. Before joining Brentford, he had a successful tenure at Peterborough United, where he scored 72 goals in 138 games.
