Breaking News: Borussia Dortmund appoint Man Utd former Manager Erik ten Hag as new manager

After a terrible run of play, Erik ten Hag was fired by Manchester United in October. Although the Dutchman appeared to be headed back, he will need to reconsider his next course of action.

Despite having ties to the German team, Borussia Dortmund has SNUBBED Erik ten Hag.

Since choosing to fire Nuri Sahin earlier this month, Dortmund have been searching for a new manager. Ten Hag was seen as having a “very good” relationship with Matthias Sammer, the former captain and advisor for Dortmund, and had been one of the front-runners for the position after being seen at several games.

However, following announcing the hiring of former Monaco and Bayern Munich manager Niko Kovac, the German powerhouses have taken a totally different turn. Following this weekend’s match against Heidenheim, the Croatian will assume leadership.

“We have had extensive talks with Niko Kovac over the past few days and have purposefully taken the time to get to know each other and our expectations better,” said Lars Ricken, the sporting director for Dortmund, in reference to the appointment. Niko’s teams have always stood out for their vigour, tenacity, and appreciation of the value of teamwork.

“On and off the pitch, we want to experience and see all of this. We are certain that we have found the coach who can conquer this difficult sporting circumstance in Niko.”

The 53-year-old Kovac went on to say: “The conversations with Lars Ricken were really beneficial, containing the required level of detail, clarity, and situational knowledge. I am confident that we can accomplish a lot together in the future because everyone in charge at BVB gave us a very positive vibe during the discussions.

In order to represent Borussia Dortmund as best as possible in the Bundesliga, the Champions League, and the Club World Cup in the summer, it is now crucial to bring the unwavering will, a huge heart, and the determination to work hard. We are focussing and being determined to overcome this obstacle.”

Ten Hag is in a difficult situation as he looks for his next employment as a result of Dortmund’s decision. After being fired by United in October, the Dutchman has been linked to a number of positions, including RB Leipzig and a possible return to his old team, Ajax.

However, Ten Hag wasn’t the only previous United manager connected to Dortmund. According to reports, former temporary head coach Ralf Rangnick was also a candidate after having a “secret meeting” with Dortmund officials.

Currently, Rangnick has been the head coach of the Austrian national team since April 2022. His contract expires at the conclusion of this year.
