As was the case with his predecessor Erik ten Hag during the previous season, Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim has had a difficult time adjusting to the left wingback position.
The Portuguese would be making a mistake if they placed an excessive amount of faith in Luke Shaw because he continues to be sidelined and because he has a poor injury record. Tyrell Malacia has left for PSV Eindhoven on loan after a challenging one and a half years with the club after leaving.
Patrick Dorgu is anticipated to take over as the starting left wingback beginning with Friday’s FA Cup match against Leicester City. The experiment that involved playing Diogo Dalot as a makeshift left wingback for the team was a complete and utter failure.
Amorim, however, is also keeping an eye out for young players who are making their way through the illustrious United academy system. On Wednesday, the former manager of Sporting Lisbon encouraged Dante Plunkett to participate in training sessions with the first team.
As the star player said his goodbyes after Rangers’ match, Manchester United reached an agreement on a transfer fee of £101 million to sign Alejandro Garnacho’s replacement. The 17-year-old player was called up to training.
He announced his participation in the first team training session for the very first time by posting a confirmation on social media. He posted a picture of his boots to his Instagram account, and he captioned the post with the phrase “first team” followed by an emoji of a checkmark.
After a fruitful trial period, the 17-year-old football player was acquired from Aston Villa in the summer of 2024. He possesses all of the qualities that are necessary to become a major player in the sport of football.
The Englishman has been referred to as “lightning quick,” and he is also a good reader of the game. Furthermore, as evidenced by his performances for the United U18s this season, he possesses the potential to score goals as well.
Despite the fact that Plunkett has played eight games this season and has contributed two goals and one assist, it is still unclear where he stands in the hierarchy of the team given that Harry Amass is still a member of the club.
Should we expect any debuts?
As a result of Lisandro Martinez’s injury, Amorim may decide to reorganise his team, and Dorgu, who is also only 20 years old and has just started playing English football, requires a backup.
Clearly, the head coach is identifying which young talents have the potential to make the transition if it is necessary, and it is encouraging to see Plunkett being involved at such an early stage in his development.
THIS IS WHERE WE GO! Due to the pressure from fans, the Arsenal board has agreed to pay a fee of £122 million to acquire Europe’s most in-form striker. The player’s unveiling has already been scheduled.
There is a possibility that Amorim will give a few debuts during the cup match against the Foxes, particularly if United is able to gain an early advantage in the tournament.
While Ruud van Nistelrooy is eager to send a message to both Amorim and INEOS, fans are not overly confident heading into the game because of the Red Devils’ home form this season. However, fans are not completely confident.
