Although nobody outside of the United brain trust was surprised by the recent back-to-back losses, Manchester United made the decision to continue with Erik ten Hag in the summer.
Talk about Ten Hag’s potential successor reappears along with the Ten Hag chatter. These are the current favourites for the position, according to Oddschecker’s most recent odds.
10) Zidane Zinedine
There are persistent attempts to get Zinedine Zidane to United. That is not going to occur.
9) Ruben Amorim
a true staple of these lists, having won two Portuguese championships in his four years with Sporting. Had to acknowledge that speaking with West Ham was a “mistake” that could have destroyed his chances of taking over at Liverpool. is undoubtedly going to be discussed if and when the United position comes up again, though.
8) Arf, Graham Potter! Imagine the scenario where Ten Hag was fired by United and the man who failed miserably at Chelsea was brought in to take his place. Although it is difficult to see anyone thriving at Stamford Bridge, Potter has a lot of mitigating circumstances. However, before the greatest clubs consider him again, he must re-establish his credentials for the top positions elsewhere.
And imagine how the egos in the United dressing room would respond. After Ralf Rangnick was appointed, some of these boys refused to listen to him since they had to Google the German. It is unlikely that this team will pay attention to Potter.
But Dan Ashworth would undoubtedly be amenable to this nomination.
7) Thomas Frank
Perhaps it would have made a little more sense if Brentford hadn’t been circling the relegation race for a large portion of the previous campaign. Even so, it seems he already has the ability to bring out the worst in Man United, which is a must for the position.
6) Robert Zerbi, Robert
Currently at Marseille, he will always rank well among the candidates for any major Premier League coaching position because he “knows the league.” Additionally, he has the ability to slip five spots in a year—a skill that Manchester United may find invaluable.
Mauricio Pochettino No. 5
Chelsea made the incredibly foolish decision, which seemed to open the door for United to sign the manager they had long sought from his Tottenham days. They made the decision to forgo that alternative in favour of continuing with what has been extremely successful for them.
Pochettino’s confirmation as the new USMNT manager is imminent, so any second thoughts United may have about that decision made this season are probably pointless.
4) McKenna Kieran
His agency performed a masterful job, as he was able to secure a four-year contract at Ipswich that places him among the most paid managers in the Premier League, despite rumours of interest from Manchester United. While Ten Hag thrashes around, any kind of promising season, or even half-season, at Ipswich may keep him very much in the running.
3) Thomas Tuchel
His departure from Bayern Munich puts him squarely in the running for many of the major positions that will open up this summer, but the Red Devils’ search for a long-term manager who can infuse United with new life may be hampered by his lack of charisma and his experience managing four clubs in ten years.
Has to shoulder a good portion of the responsibility for Bayern’s disastrous 2023–24 campaign, even though the Harry Kane Curse is undoubtedly the primary reason for the team’s third-place finish in a one-horse race.
but nevertheless shows that there is a manager of the highest calibre available right now. We’re not sure whether either party would be that interested right now, though, given rumours from the summer said he talked himself out of the position by describing ideas as ridiculous as “fixing problems” and “getting the best out of Jadon Sancho.”
1. Southgate, Gareth
Remains nearly at the top following his resignation from England following yet another spectacular failure. Although we’re not sure if United supporters would put up with this, the press boys would be overjoyed.
If there’s any hint that this could actually be a contender, opinion writers will be writing about how much Southgate deserves this opportunity given that England came close to winning some games. He would have to sign Jordan Henderson as United manager in order to have the most banter.
Whatever your thoughts on Southgate, United shouldn’t have to fear about him being snatched away by a major rival before they have a chance.
