The situation for the Argentinean international appears to be dire.

At Old Trafford, Lisandro Martinez, a defender for Manchester United, was crying as he was carried away with what looked to be a major knee injury. Following a collision with Crystal Palace forward Ismaïla Sarr, the centre-back went down and signalled to the bench right away.

Before being taken away, the 27-year-old was evaluated by medical professionals for a number of minutes while visibly gripping his left knee.

Martinez placed his hand on his head and seemed to be crying as he exited the pitch, even though he received a compassionate round of applause.

When the incident happened, Sarr and Martinez were both pursuing a long Palace ball forward. As he fell to ground, the centre-back attempted to win the ball by sticking out his left leg, but he appeared to twist awkwardly as he planted his foot.

Sarr had made a tiny contact, but the referee’s blow-up for a foul stopped his run into the area. Ruben Amorim and his player, who has suffered a series of injury issues since joining from Ajax in the summer of 2022, appear to have been dealt a crushing blow.

He was disabled for five months due to a foot ailment that occurred in April 2023, and he was immediately sidelined for four more months due to a recurrence. He only made 11 Premier League games due to the problems last season, but he did make a comeback in time for the FA Cup final victory over Man City.

The game concluded with another league loss, adding to United’s suffering. When Martinez was substituted out after 64 minutes, Jean-Philippe Mateta had already put the visitors ahead, and in the closing seconds, he scored his second goal to complete the victory.

The outcome came seven days after Martinez’s late deflection goal sealed the Red Devils’ 1-0 victory over Fulham in the top tier.
