David Coote has served as a Premier League referee for six years; however, his status may now be jeopardised following the publication of a video of him purportedly criticising Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp online.
The Premier League referee David Coote is currently under investigation by the PGMOL for allegedly referring to Liverpool as “s***” and Jurgen Klopp as a “German c***” in a video that was published online.
The video, which was posted on X (formerly Twitter) and appears to have been captured during the Covid-19 pandemic several years ago, depicts Coote conversing with a companion while seated on a sofa. Mirror Football comprehends that PGMOL is cognisant of the video and is conducting an inquiry. Liverpool and the FA have been contacted for comment.
The video appears to have been captured following a game in which Coote served as the fourth official. His companion enquires, “What were your thoughts on the Liverpool game earlier?”
Allegedly, Coote responded by declaring, “Liverpool were s***.” Subsequently, his acquaintance enquired, “What are your opinions of Jurgen Klopp?” Coote responded with a sneer: “C***.” Absolute shit.
He accused me of lying and then had a right f****** blast at me, in addition to having a right snap at me when I refereed them against Burnley in lockdown.
“I have no desire to engage in conversation with an individual who is f****** arrogant.” Therefore, I make every effort to refrain from engaging in conversation with him. James Milner is doing well.
“You can observe me wearing a mask in the photograph on his phone.” We are socially distancing, and we are two meters apart. Have to be cautious, right? However, my God, German c***. F*** me.”
Coote then appealed to the individual who was receiving the video to refrain from sharing it. He also stated, “To be clear, that last video is not going to be a success.” In all seriousness.”
Coote has been a Premier League referee since 2018, and he had previously supervised EFL games for eight years. During Klopp’s tenure as Liverpool’s manager, he encountered him on numerous occasions.
Last December, he was on VAR duty for the Reds’ match against Arsenal, which was one of those flashpoints. The ball was handled in the area by Gunners captain Martin Odegaard as he was collapsing to the ground. However, referee Chris Kavanagh determined that the Norwegian had not done so intentionally, despite the fact that it halted the flow of play. Coote at Stockley Park concurred.
Klopp fumed, “Yes, I have observed it.” “I am pretty sure someone will come to explain it to me why it was not a handball but I don’t know how?”I do not assert that the referee is able to observe it, as I am unaware of his location at that precise instant. However, how could an individual in an office environment fail to recognise that it may be worthwhile for the referee to examine the situation again?
On Saturday, Liverpool secured a 2-0 victory over Aston Villa under Coote’s leadership. At the summit of the Premier League table, they are currently five points ahead of their nearest rivals, Manchester City.
