Chelsea has provided an explanation for why they thought Enzo Maresca was a strong candidate to replace Mauricio Pochettino. The Italian has reportedly inked a five-year contract, solidifying his status as the Blues’ new head coach.

Paul Stewart and Paul Winstanley, the co-sporting directors, claim that Maresca is a great coach who can produce results and that his “work ethic” and “ambition” are what got him the position.

“We are thrilled to have Enzo join Chelsea. In a joint statement, Winstanley and Stewart stated, “He has proven himself to be an excellent coach capable of delivering impressive results with an exciting and identifiable style.”

“We have been really impressed with Enzo during our conversations before his appointment. His goals and work ethic are in line with the club’s. We are really excited to collaborate with him.

Maresca, who was Pep Guardiola’s assistant head coach at Manchester City, won the Championship with Leicester last season. Playing a dynamic brand of football, his Foxes team scored an incredible 97 points in the previous campaign.

He is thought to have won the Chelsea position over Kieran McKenna, Thomas Frank, and Roberto De Zerbi. After being promoted to the Premier League, McKenna signed a new contract at Ipswich, but De Zerbi left Brighton at the end of the previous season and hasn’t found a new job.

“Any coach’s dream is to work for one of the biggest teams in the world, Chelsea. That is the reason I am ecstatic about this chance,” Maresca stated on Monday following the confirmation of his Chelsea appointment.

“I’m excited to work with a very talented group of players and staff to build a team that wins championships and inspires pride in our supporters,” the player said.

With three permanent head coaches and an average tenure of seven months, Chelsea’s ownership group is hoping that Maresca can put them back in the running for major awards.

The BlueCo consortium released the following statement: “We are ecstatic to welcome Enzo into the Chelsea family. In the upcoming years, we hope to help him and the other athletes on the team reach their full potential and live up to our expectations.

“We are confident that he can help us realize our vision and competitive goals for the Club. He is a highly gifted coach and leader.”

At the end of last season, Chelsea and Pochettino came to an amicable agreement to part ways. The Blues won their last five games under the Argentine manager and finished sixth in the Premier League after a difficult start to the season. Liverpool defeated Chelsea in the Carabao Cup final, which they also attended.
