Despite Robert Sanchez’s recent difficulties, Chelsea is not looking to add a custodian, although Filip Jorgensen might be given an opportunity.

According to sources, Chelsea has made the decision not to sign a successor for Robert Sanchez during the current transfer window. After moving from Brighton for £25 million in the summer of 2023, Sanchez has struggled at Stamford Bridge.
The Spanish goalie has been poor, topping the list of mistakes that have led to goals (five) and shots (seven). He made one such mistake during Saturday’s loss to Manchester City, giving up the ball 19 times.
At the Etihad, he made a crucial error by failing to stop Erling Haaland, which let the City striker shoot into an open net. After Josko Gvardiol equalised, this was City’s second goal, and Phil Foden added a late third.
After a failed catch against Wolves on Monday that gave the struggling squad a temporary equaliser, Sanchez’s error was his second in as many weeks. Chelsea is apparently sticking with their struggling keeper despite his bad play.
The Blues are ‘not in the market’ for another custodian, according to The Times, and are instead concentrating on strengthening their attack.
A lifeline has been given to Sanchez. With Kepa out on loan, Chelsea already has a talented goalkeeping corps that includes Filip Jorgensen, Gabriel Slonina, Marcus Bettinelli, and Lucas Bergstrom.
“We trust Robert for sure, but the first one that is completely aware he is making mistakes in this moment is Robert,” Enzo Maresca said on Saturday, hinting at a possible benching for Sanchez in the forthcoming game against West Ham.
“We definitely still have faith in Robert. We have a full week to observe the response before deciding on the next game, but we trust Robert.”
“We started the game exactly as we prepared,” Maresca said, refusing to attribute the City defeat to Sanchez alone. We had three chances to score the second goal, but we only managed to score the first.
“I believe—and I am absolutely certain—that the game would be entirely different due to the atmosphere and the moment, scoring the second goal. Regretfully, we failed to score the second one.
“In these types of games, you have to have courage because you know that if you have to press higher, you would be leaving their greatest player, Haaland, against your defender one-on-one. However, I believe we played the majority of the game rather well.
