Breaking: Despite receiving a red card versus City, Arsenal player Leandro Trossard will play in the weekend’s Premier League match as he does not face a ban. Here’s why.
Why Leandro Trossard of Arsenal is spared a Premier League suspension despite Man City’s red card
Despite being sent off during Sunday’s 2-2 draw between Arsenal and Manchester City, Leandro Trossard won’t be missing any more Premier League games.
In the first half of the fierce match at the Etihad, the Belgian received two yellow cards; the second came for kicking the ball away after fouling Bernardo Silva shortly before halftime.
The decision infuriated the Arsenal players and manager Mikel Arteta, but Trossard was dismissed, and they played the remainder of the match with just ten men.
The 29-year-old is indeed banned for one game in any domestic competition after receiving a red card, but the suspension is only for that one game.
Trossard will be suspended for Arsenal’s Carabao Cup encounter against Bolton Wanderers on Wednesday night.
After that, he will be eligible for Saturday afternoon’s Premier League matchup between the Gunners and Leicester City at home.
Three weeks after Declan Rice was sent out for delaying a restart against Brighton following a second booking, Arteta was left fuming by the red card.
While attempting to control his annoyance, the Spaniard stated that if the laws are upheld regularly, he anticipates seeing a lot more red cards.
“It’s so evident that I don’t need to comment,” Arteta remarked. It’s happening again. I anticipate that the format of 100 Premier League games will be either 10 against 11 or 10 against 9. See you later.
“I think it is quite obvious what people think of the red card,” he continued. I’m not here to pass judgment on what transpired. For fifty-five minutes, I have to strive to survive in one of the most hostile situations in football while completing tasks that will help me stay alive.
“It is very concerning to see in the best league that it has already happened twice in five games.”
