Brandon Williams Joins English Club Despite Suspended Jail Sentence After Man Utd Exit

Brandon Williams, a former defender for Manchester United, has committed to Hull City in England. The defender has secured a one-year contract with the Championship team, despite presently serving a suspended jail sentence.

Williams was regarded as one of the most promising young players to emerge from the Manchester United academy not too long ago. In fact, he made his debut in the senior lineup in 2019 and attracted attention with several impressive left-back performances.

His career took a turn for the worse in recent years, although he went on to make 51 senior games for the Red Devils. After his contract with Old Trafford expired in 2024, he left after loan stints at Norwich City and Ipswich Town failed to impress anyone of his talent.

His reputation outside of the field suffered after he received a sentence for reckless driving. Williams, who was discovered driving at nearly 100 miles per hour without third-party insurance, pleaded guilty and was handed a 14-month suspended sentence.

Williams gave a fourteen-month jail sentence suspended on May 2025

Williams was seen driving a high-speed, erratic Audi A3 on the A34 near Cheshire in August 2023, according to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS). He had a female passenger and was traveling at 99 mph in a 70 mph zone.

Witnesses said the vehicle was out of control when it struck a blue Ford Fiesta and then crashed into the central reserve, with a balloon reportedly at his mouth as well. Although the central reservation, his car, and the Fiesta were all severely damaged, a breathalyzer test revealed no problems.

In May 2025, he received a 14-month suspended jail term and was mandated to perform community service as a form of penance.

Williams, who last played competitive football in December 2023, joins Hull.

Williams hasn’t actually participated in a senior football match since playing 64 minutes in Ipswich’s goalless draw with QPR on December 29, 2023. Nonetheless, he participated in preseason friendly for Hull against Getafe and Sunderland.

The 24-year-old was given a one-year contract with the option to extend it by an additional 12 months, indicating that he performed well in these games. Williams expressed his excitement at finding a new club in an interview with Hull’s official website. He stated:

“Being back on the field and in the team environment feels terrific. Everyone has been really friendly. I’m just glad I’m here and can concentrate on the game, even if it’s been a nice few weeks. The manager and I had a few extremely open meetings. We are aware that getting totally back up to speed after that time out will take some time. I hadn’t participated in or played for a team in twenty months. I valued the manager’s candor. I have to put in a lot of effort now to get as many games as I can.

“Taking a sabbatical from football was really challenging, both psychologically and physically. The journey back has been lengthy, but I think I needed it. I’ve changed since I returned here. I’ve grown up a lot and I’m ready to just focus on the football. I didn’t notice it. I’m hungry, I’m fiery. I know what quality I can bring to the team. As soon as I get back to that, I’m sure I’ll be an asset to the team.”

Former Man United teammates Bruno Fernandes and Harry Maguire seemed delighted for the Englishman as they took to social media to congratulate the player on his move.

Maguire wrote: “Love this. All the best mate.” While Fernandes added: “Buzzing for you kid.”
