Birmingham City confirm transfer as Derby County contract details revealed

Latest Birmingham City news from BirminghamLive brings you news of a deal that has occurred today.

Derby County has confirmed the permanent acquisition of Birmingham City defender Dion Sanderson.

The centre-back has joined the Rams for an undisclosed sum, which DerbyshireLive believes is in the six-figure area.

It’s another clever move from Derby, as Sanderson has been an outstanding performer for the Rams since joining on a season-long loan from the Blues in the summer.

He has established himself as an important member of John Eustace’s team since the season began, with the centre-back being a reliable presence at the heart of the defence.

According to Derbyshire Live, the transfer also frees up a loan slot as the club prepares for the January window.

Sanderson said of the deal: “It’s exciting and a huge honour.”

“I can’t thank the lads, the staff, and the fans enough for making my stay here so enjoyable. Long may it continue.

“At first, I just wanted to get my head down and play, and I’m happy for the opportunity to do so.

“But over the past few weeks there have been a few conversations [about joining permanently], and thankfully we got it over the line.”

Sanderson has started 21 Championship games for Derby this season, scoring his first goal in a 3-2 loss to Watford. He has worked with head coach John Eustace on several occasions, including at QPR, Birmingham, Blackburn, and now Derby. He has helped Derby County maintain their Championship place, which is now mid-table. Sanderson added, “Derby is simply a tremendous club.

“I believe knowing the gaffer [John Eustace] well helped, but even if he wasn’t present, it was a move I’d want to make.

“The fans have also been fantastic for me personally.

“I’ve really enjoyed going out and playing for them.”I think the guys who are here today are a terrific bunch of boys.

“I couldn’t picture myself anywhere else right now; Derby is the one for me.”
