Barry Bannan’s tenure at Sheffield Wednesday appears to be coming to a close, with the Owls’ away game against Bristol City on Saturday looking to be his last.
After over 475 appearances for Sheffield Wednesday, Barry Bannan’s career at Hillsborough appears to be coming to an end.
The 27-cap former Scottish international joined the South Yorkshire club from Crystal Palace in 2015, and he has had many highs and lows during his time there.
Captaining the club through one of its darkest eras, Bannan’s leadership and professionalism have been excellent, and despite his premature departure from the club, he will be held in high esteem by the Owls faithful.
Sheffield Wednesday suffered a significant Barry Bannan setback as Championship rivals approach.

Indeed, Bannan’s stint with Wednesday appears to be nearing to a close, with six months remaining on his current contract.
According to Joe Crann of X, Bannan is expected to play his final game for the Owls on Saturday, with Millwall, Stoke City, and Preston North End reportedly interested in the experienced midfielder.
Alex Miller has also revealed that the veteran notified Wednesday of his intention to depart the club this month, with Millwall being the most likely destination.
According to Alax Nixon, Millwall has been the most prominent club connected with the 36-year-old, with Alex Neil’s team battling for the top six.
Stoke and Preston have also been linked with Bannan, and while no destination has been confirmed for the Scot, those three appear to be the frontrunners.
The departure of Bannan will, of course, come as a significant shock to Wednesday, who, despite their fragile position at the bottom of the Championship table, will be devastated to see their finest player, captain, and club legend move so soon.
Whoever is able to complete a deal for Bannan will be getting a player with over 400 Championship appearances, and while his athleticism has dwindled in recent years, his technical ability does not appear to have wavered, and he will most likely walk into whatever midfield he is joining.
Barry Bannan’s departure will be emotional for Sheffield Wednesday fans.

Bannan’s exit will disappoint many Wednesday fans for a variety of reasons, as it marks the end of an era for the club.
With Dejphon Chansiri now out of the picture, the Owls were doomed to relegation from the moment a ball was kicked this season, and while losing Bannan will most likely have no effect on their finishing position, losing him before the season finishes will be very painful.
As he was substituted late in their 2-0 home defeat to Birmingham City, there was a sense that it was his final game as a Wednesday player at Hillsborough, and it appears to have been.
The travelling Owls fans will have the opportunity to say their final goodbyes to him at Ashton Gate on Saturday, though neither party will find it easy to part ways.
Bannan, a true club legend, will retire with the best wishes of Owls fans, knowing that he was one of the few who remained around when things went bad and never gave up when he could have.
