After Jean-Philippe Mateta was kicked in the face by custodian Liam Roberts during a challenge that resulted in a red card, BBC commentator Jonathan Pearce condemned a vile chant that was being chanted by Millwall fans who were visiting the stadium.
A shocking incident that occurred during the first few minutes of the FA Cup fifth round match between Palace and Millwall brought the match to life. The visitors were reduced to 10 men as a result of the incident.
After being put through on goal, Mateta was fouled by Millwall custodian Roberts, who then kicked him in the face.
Michael Oliver, the match referee, issued a red card to the custodian after a video assistant referee (VAR) review was performed.
During the time that Mateta was receiving immediate medical attention, he was collapsed on the ground.
During the lengthy break, the travelling Millwall supporters at Selhurst Park could be heard singing ‘let him die’, which was immediately condemned by Pearce, who called out the chant on air.
It should come as no surprise that individuals on social media also criticised the chant that was directed at Mateta, who was injured in the collision and was taken to the hospital.
According to the statement of one user on X, “Millwall fans are singing ‘Let Him Die’ because Mateta received a flying kick to the head and is unable to continue playing in the game.” And they are perplexed as to why no one accepts them. What the hell is going on?
A second person expressed their anger by saying, “Millwall fans are the most stupid people in the world.” Mateta is being led off on a stretcher after the Millwall custodian volleyed him in the head, and the crowd is jeering him as he is being taken away. Let’s not even bring up the chants that are being chanted, “Let him die.”
In addition, a third person stated, “I sincerely hope that Millwall is completely beaten.” It’s a crappy little club. ‘Let him die,’ Mateta is being carried away on a stretcher after receiving a kick to the head from a kung fun.
While Mateta was receiving treatment on the floor, a fourth individual said, “Let him die of his injuries.” Millwall is so petty and devoid of any sense of class.
“I see that a portion of Millwall’s fans are as refined as they have always been,” another person commented. “Let him die” is being chanted while Mateta is being treated for her condition. Unquestionable filth”
Immediately following Mateta’s injury, Palace issued a statement to the public.
The following is an excerpt from the statement: “Mateta is being stretchered off following that tragic challenge.” JP, we are right behind you in this race.
Eddie Nketiah took all of Mateta’s responsibilities.
