Following allegations that he sexually assaulted a woman at a sports club, a pundit who has been featured on the BBC, Sky Sports, and Channel 4 has been charged with the crime.
In response to allegations that she “intentionally touched a woman aged 16 or over” at Horsforth Cricket Club in West Yorkshire on July 22, 2022, Danika Priim is scheduled to appear at Leeds Crown Court the following month due to the allegations.
One of the allegations against Priim is that she assaulted the woman “when she did not consent,” and that she “did not reasonably believe” that the alleged victim was consenting to the assault.
Last week, the individual, who is now forty years old and had previously played for England, Bradford Bulls, and Leeds Rhinos before transitioning into the field of sports commentary and reporting, made an appearance before the Leeds magistrates’ court.
According to a report from the Mirror, there have been no pleas entered at this date in the proceedings.
Following her retirement from rugby league in 2021, Priim embarked on a career becoming a sports commentator. In 2022, she was a part of the Super League production that was broadcast on Channel 4, for which she received a nomination for the Broadcast Sport Awards.
Additionally, Priim covered the Olympic rugby 7s competition that took place at the Paris 2024 games. He was selected to be a member of the BBC team that competed in the Rugby League World Cup in 2022.
After being subjected to cruel comments on social media, the former prop forward seriously considered quitting her “dream job” in the previous year.
“I adore the work that I do. Without a doubt, I adore each and every second of it. I am in a life-changing situation in which I have the opportunity to go and try out a lot of new things. The question she posed was, “But is it worth the day or two where I have cried?”
Getting messages in my inbox from people who are sending me direct messages to say that they want to slit my throat because I didn’t like their team is something that I’ve experienced.
I’ve been wondering, what exactly is the point? It was at the end of the previous year that I entertained the idea of giving up doing it. Then, however, you come to the realisation that the people who employ you are the ones whose perceptions are significant.
“I’d say 90% of the time it’s okay, but the other 10% can be a really rough ride.”
In September, Priim was elected to the position of vice president for the Rugby Football League (RFL), which is the governing body for rugby league. This makes her the fourth woman to hold the position of president or vice president of the RFL since the two positions were first introduced in 1988.
