Barcelona are planning a January move for Arsenal’s £50 million star who wants to leave Emirates.
Barcelona is eyeing a January deal for Thomas Partey, though it is unclear whether Arsenal will allow him go.
According to Fichajes, Barcelona has acquired Thomas Partey to their midfield roster ahead of the January transfer window. The €50 million Arsenal star is still injured, and it is unclear whether the club will allow him depart next month.
Mikel Arteta believes Thomas Partey is an important aspect of Arsenal’s playing style and the answer to his midfield puzzle. Until now, the Gunners had been without the Ghanaian for the majority of the season due to injury difficulties.
Arsenal hopes to get him back before the end of the year, and he should be fit by the conclusion of the season. Depending on how injury-free he is, the Gunners will prepare for the January transfer window, when they are expected to recruit a new centre midfielder.
Another report suggested that Arsenal is preparing to sell Partey and replace him with Joao Palhinha. However, the club is currently sending out different statements. In actuality, Arteta and summer addition Declan Rice might form a good partnership until the conclusion of the season, giving the Gunners greater consistency.
However, when the time comes to sell Partey, Arsenal will demand a high price considering the €50 million investment and the qualities he brings. Partey has reportedly sparked interest from Saudi Pro League clubs, including Juventus and, most recently, Barcelona.
President Joan Laporta has announced that Barcelona intends to sign the midfielder in January, assuming FFP rules allow. However, considering their dire financial circumstances, he insisted on a loan.
He has been associated to several well-known players, notably Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi. However, none of these players will attend because the clubs are hesitant to engage with the Catalans in the current situation.
Partey, on the other hand, fits tactically into the team, despite being a different player than Gavi, whom Barcelona hopes to replace following a major knee injury. The Ghanaian international will provide Handu Flick another alternative. However, there are concerns that the Catalans can persuade Arsenal.
The Gunners will demand a big amount in exchange, and they will undoubtedly oppose a mid-season loan. Although Barcelona admires Partey, the prospects of his joining before January are limited.
