Barcelona Make Final Decision on Sending Marcus Rashford Back to Man Utd

Marcus Rashford’s career at Manchester United appears to be coming to an end due to his fall from grace under head coach Ruben Amorim. As a result, he consented to a season-long loan move to Barcelona this summer, and Hansi Flick and company’s position on ending his contract too soon has been made public.

It seems that a transfer to play with Lamine Yamal and Raphinha might have been just what the doctor ordered to help the Englishman get back on track, but according to recent rumours, Barcelona was debating whether to break up relations too soon.

El Nacional stated that worries had already been raised about Rashford after three games with his temporary La Liga employers, particularly because he was unable to sign either Nico Williams or Luis Diaz. Barcelona’s actual feelings for the winger have finally been made public by journalist Guillem Balague.

Barcelona has the option to make Rashford’s move permanent for £30 million next summer, but they are under no obligation to do so. Barcelona wants to keep their title as La Liga champions after their victory last season.

Rashford might go back to Old Trafford to (again!) reconsider his future intentions if he doesn’t make an impression. He has made three appearances for La Blaugrana so far this season, although he has not yet scored or provided an assist. He has played 94 minutes, most of which have been off the bench.

Rashford made his debut at the Estadio Ciutat de Valencia against Levante, but he hasn’t yet proven to the Spanish top division why he was previously thought to be one of the most exciting players in the world of football.

Balague corrected the record on X (previously Twitter) by implying that Barcelona executives, including Sporting Director Deco, are eager to keep him on for the season because they think he will be a standout player. He wrote:

“It is completely untrue that Barcelona intends to finalise an early Marcus Rashford loan agreement. Barcelona assured his agent that they are very optimistic about Rashford’s potential and that they think he will bounce back to become a top player.

“Aside from the fact that I agree with Gary Lineker and the way some media have treated him,” he added. Rashford and Gary Lineker, who has previously played for Barcelona, had a conversation about all things football in the middle of August.

One topic that came up during their discussion was how the Manchester-born winger was treated by the British media. Lineker asserted that if he were white, he wouldn’t face the same criticism, and Balague concurs with that statement.

The 27-year-old has no plans to return to Old Trafford in January, according to people close to him who spoke to The Sun. As far as the magazine is aware, Flick and his group are still fully behind Rashford.

Despite the fact that things haven’t gone as planned, Rashford has gained the confidence of England manager Thomas Tuchel, who started him off the left wing in their 2-0 victory over Andorra. He was replaced by Anthony Gordon after playing for 68 minutes.

It is unknown if he has a plane ticket for the 2026 World Cup with his name on it. He has scored 17 goals in 62 games for his country, but there will be fierce competition for spots on the flanks this season from players like Phil Foden and Cole Palmer.
