Leicester City has been promptly penalized six points, putting them in risk of relegation from the Championship.
The Foxes received the sanction after being deemed to have violated the Premier League’s financial regulations.

The deduction will push the former Premier League winners, who are presently without a manager, into relegation jeopardy.
They are now 20th in the Championship, just outside the relegation zone on goal differential, with 16 league games remaining.
An EFL statement, issued on Thursday afternoon, states: “The EFL notes the decision of the independent Disciplinary Commission, appointed under Premier League Rules, which has confirmed that Leicester City FC breached the Profit & Sustainability Rules in the three-year reporting period ending with Season 2023/24.”After considering all relevant criteria, the Commission recommended a six-point reduction.
“The EFL Board has met to consider the decision and determined that the sanction should be applied to the Championship table with immediate effect.”
At the same time, the Premier League disclosed: “An independent Commission has recommended that an immediate six-point deduction be imposed on Leicester City FC in the Championship, having found them to be in breach of the EFL Profit and Sustainability Rules (P&S Rules) for Season 2023/24.”After Leicester City’s promotion to the Premier League in 2024, the EFL’s investigation into potential breaches of the P&S Rules was moved to the Premier League.Following an Arbitration Tribunal judgment in March 2025, which confirmed the Premier League’s jurisdiction, Leicester City was referred to an independent Commission in May 2025.
“During a week-long hearing in November 2025, Leicester City raised a number of legal arguments to the applicability of the relevant Rules and the Commission’s authority to impose sanctions on the club, all of which were rejected. These included a claim that the applicable restrictions violated competition law.The Commission approved the club’s representations on the length of the relevant assessment period and a specific accounting policy for player costs to decrease losses in its 2022 annual reports.”After doing so, it ruled that the club had over the appropriate P&S level by £20.8 million throughout the three-year assessment period (2022-2024).
The Commission determined that the club’s failure to submit annual accounts to the Premier League by the deadline violated Premier League rules. The court denied the club’s claim of unusual cooperation during the proceedings. The Commission determined that the club’s improved financial status during the evaluation period was a mitigating factor, as agreed upon by the parties and in accordance with relevant norms.Because Leicester City is currently a Championship team, the EFL Board today approved the Commission’s recommendation for an immediate points deduction.”
