Arsene Wenger Goes on Angry Rant Over Inter Milan’s Penalty vs Barcelona

The officials who gave Inter Milan a penalty during their Champions League semi-final matchup with Barcelona have come under fire from Arsene Wenger. With a Champions League final spot up for grabs, the two teams squared off at the San Siro on Tuesday night. With a goal from Lautaro Martinez in the first half, the host team also jumped out to an early lead.

When it was determined that Pau Cubarsi had fouled the striker inside the Barcelona area prior to the half, they doubled their lead. The judgement was amended to award a spot-kick after a VAR check proved that Martinez had touched the ball before the defender from a specific angle. Originally, there had been no foul.

The former manager of Arsenal has now scheduled the decision to amend the call and has not held back in his evaluation.

Wenger Revealed He’s ‘Against These Types of Penalties’

He wasn’t happy at all

When Barcelona was behind 2-0 during the match, Wenger expressed his displeasure with the penalty call after the officials reviewed the foul using VAR. He believes it is incorrect to employ slow motion with VAR to evaluate fouls. The Frenchman discussed the spot-kick as follows:

“I strongly oppose these kinds of sanctions. Additionally, I strongly oppose the use of slow motion VAR.

The former manager of Arsenal has been in the news lately for other reasons. He said earlier in the week that he wants to see the Europa League’s regulations changed so that the winner of the league would no longer be eligible to play in the Champions League after winning. Few others concur, but he’s never been one to keep his thoughts to himself, no matter how audacious.

Online, his remarks regarding the penalty have generated a lot of controversy. On X (Twitter), one admirer wrote: “That’s a pen, all day.” One person remarked, “Using slow motion to see that he doesn’t touch the ball seems like a valid reason to use slow motion,” while another said, “Mr. Wenger isn’t always right.”

Another admirer said, “This man just comes off as grumpy,” accusing the Frenchman of being unhappy with everything. Unfortunately, it seems to be having issues with everything these days.
