Arsenal set to hijack second Spurs transfer as David Ornstein drops major update in £52m pursuit

After signing Eberechi Eze, Arsenal appear to be on the verge of acquiring another Tottenham player.

Arsenal are likely to hijack a second Tottenham deal after signing Eberechi Eze, according to David Ornstein’s latest update.

Arsenal spent big this summer, signing Viktor Gyokeres and Martin Zubimendi.

Gyokeres, who addressed his doubters after scoring twice against Leeds United last weekend, cost the Gunners £64 million, while Zubimendi cost £60 million.

The club is also working on more reinforcements ahead of next month’s transfer deadline, having revealed Eze against Leeds.

According to Ornstein, Arsenal is ‘working on a deal’ to sign Piero Hincapie from Bayer Leverkusen.

The contract, however, is subject to player exits as the club seeks to balance its finances after signing seven new players this summer.

Hincapie, who can play as a centre-back or left-back, is under contract with Leverkusen until 2029, but has expressed his wish to leave the club this summer.

The 23-year-old has a €60 million (£52 million) release clause, but according to the source, efforts are being made to reduce that sum to a more realistic market value.

Hincapie prefers to join Arsenal, and the club is prepared to pursue him if departures occur at the Emirates.

Ornstein’s allegation came just hours after Fabrizio Romano said Spurs had approached the Ecuadorian.

They presented a loan agreement with an obligation to trigger his release clause next summer and began talking about personal teams.

But it appears Arsenal will beat their cross-city rivals to the signing of Hincapie, just as they did with Eze.

If the deal is completed, Hincapie, who has been on Arsenal’s recruitment lists for some time, will become the club’s second defender this summer after Cristhian Mosquera, who came from Valencia for £17 million.

Who might Arsenal sell this summer?
As previously stated, Arsenal has signed seven new players this summer.

An eighth signing could be on the way if the club is able to unload players before the September 1 deadline.

Jakub Kiwior, Oleksandr Zinchenko, Fabio Vieira, and Reiss Nelson are among the players who could be released.

Porto are looking to recruit Kiwior, while Fulham are keen in signing Nelson, who spent last season on loan at Craven Cottage.
