When the child of a former football hero enters the senior game, nothing makes a football fan feel older than that. When Liam Delap, the son of Rory, who was beloved for his amazing long throws, came on the scene and established himself in front of goal, supporters were taken aback. After taking a chance and joining Ipswich Town, he demonstrated that he was a capable goal scorer and was recently signed by Chelsea. He began his career in the Manchester City academy.
However, there are other sons of former Premier League players on the books at Stamford Bridge besides him. One bright young player is genuinely making his way up the ranks and getting closer to making his senior debut; his father is most known for his work at Arsenal, one of the team’s fiercest rivals. He appears to have a bright future ahead of him, as evidenced by the recent signing of a new deal.
Emmanuel Eboue’s Son is at Chelsea
He’s recently signed a new contract
Mathis Eboue joined the Chelsea academy from Watford in the beginning of 2025, even though his father played for Arsenal in north London for the majority of his professional career. In July 2025, he signed a brand-new contract after making an initial impression on the club’s employees.
Before moving to Beveren in Belgium and subsequently Arsenal in 2004, Emmanuel Eboue established himself with ASEC Mimosas in Ivory Coast. Because of his efforts in the shirt, he became a cult icon in England and played for the Gunners for seven years. However, things weren’t always easy for the right-back. He was in and out of the team at times as he adjusted to the demands of English football, and there were some disappointing periods.
At one point, after a particularly bad performance against Wigan Athletic in 2008, Arsenal supporters even turned on him, bringing him to tears as they jeered him. However, he recovered, won over the fans, and stayed at the Emirates until 2011. He had played 214 games with the Gunners by the time he left, contributing 20 assists and 10 goals. However, in spite of his cult hero reputation, his son has joined Chelsea, a local rival.
Mathis Eboue appears to have a lot of promise.
His highlights on video have been impressive.
Eboue’s kid joined Chelsea at the beginning of 2025 after first growing at Watford, and he’s doing well at Stamford Bridge. In fact, he was recently offered a new contract, which he accepted, according to The Sun. Mathis Eboue is a midfielder with a bright future at the Blues, whilst his father was a full-back.
He appears to be quite promising based on a video that has surfaced online showing his best moments with the youth team thus far. Here are some highlights from his March debut for Chelsea’s U18 team against Norwich City. When on the ball, Eboue appears cool and at ease. He moved up the field with ease, dancing past players and seemingly having the ball adhered to his feet. He also has an eye for goal and isn’t scared to aim and take a shot when he’s in a position that seems favorable. He is extremely self-assured and has a deadly left foot. The young player is expected to achieve great things, and Chelsea obviously has a lot of faith in him.
Mathis has reportedly chosen to play for England instead of his father, who represented the Ivory Coast national team 79 times, including at several important international tournaments. He has already made three appearances and scored one goal for the England U16 team. His father, who joined Galatasaray after leaving Arsenal in 2011, has a totally different playing style than he does. Prior to joining Sunderland, he played just over 100 games over his four years with the Turkish squad.
After being released by Sunderland, he quickly retired after failing to make an appearance for the Black Cats in his one year in England.
