After Arsenal’s heartbreaking Champions League loss to Paris Saint-Germain, a decision on Mikel Arteta’s future has apparently been taken.
Arsenal’s 3-1 aggregate loss to PSG resulted in their elimination from the Champions League.
The French team won 2-1 at home after defeating their English rivals 1-0 at the Emirates in the first match last week.
In the second match on Wednesday, Fabian Ruiz gave his team the lead before Achraf Hakimi doubled it. Saka Bukayo drew one back.
Arsenal, presently ranked second in the Premier League standings, is yet to win a trophy this season.
Even though Arteta hasn’t won any awards recently, his career is secure—at least for the time being.
Arteta is not “in any sort of sack race” at Arsenal, according to The Daily Mail.
However, the 43-year-old’should be feeling the heat’ after yet another season without a major trophy, according to the article.
Arteta’s massive expenditures at Arsenal, including the £105 million acquisition of Declan Rice from West Ham United, were also mentioned.
According to the report: “Arteta will point to development, but he has spent a lot of money—more than £600 million—and during his tenure, Manchester City and Liverpool have won the league, while Arsenal’s chances of winning the title are dwindling.
“He has taken Arsenal from eighth in his first season to within touching distance of the Champions League final and made them a stable presence in the top four, but Arteta needs to start winning things.”
Since joining Arsenal in December 2019, Arteta has only won one FA Cup.
In 2019–20, he led his squad to FA Cup success.
Arteta said the team is prepared for a “big” summer with new sports director Andrea Berto on board after his arrival, and he looks to be in charge of Arsenal when the summer transfer window reopens.
“Yes, I think it’s a big addition to the club, a big addition to the team,” he remarked in reference to Berto joining Arsenal. a group of wonderful individuals who have already formed a team.
“Obviously, Richard [Garlick] is in the lead. Along with James [King], Jason [Ayto], and numerous other club members who have been performing admirably.”
“The way we planned the five first summers (since I took charge), they were going to be very big and they were going to have different objectives because the turnaround of players and the objective of those windows were different,” the Spaniard continued while discussing Arsenal’s summer preparations.
“At this point, we want to strengthen the squad’s depth while simultaneously enhancing the calibre and abilities required to advance. We are really thrilled about it, and it’s going to be a big one.”
