With a 1-0 victory over Girona in Spain, Liverpool virtually guaranteed their spot in the Champions League’s round of 16, but Arne Slot was not thrilled with his team’s performance.
Even though Liverpool won the Champions League for the sixth time in a row, Arne Slot was furious with the team’s performance.
The Reds defeated Girona thanks to a penalty kick from Mo Salah in the second half, which, barring a mathematical miracle, guaranteed them a spot in the round of 16.
However, Slot wasn’t pleased with his team after they virtually guaranteed a spot in the top eight, and the returning Alisson was forced to make a number of stops in the first forty-five minutes.
“I’m really pleased with all the results if you ask me about all the six games,” he remarked. The performance is far from satisfactory, but I’m pretty happy with the first five games.
What did I not like about it? A lot of things didn’t satisfy me. Two things in particular.
“You have to be really intense if you want to make it hard for a side that knows how to bring the ball out from the back and has such a great football concept.
However, this squad might cause you a lot of trouble if you wait a few seconds to press them.
“They performed well in their Champions League matches this season, with the exception of PSV. They deserve so much more that I almost feel sad for them.
The game was almost entirely out of our control. I’m trying to be optimistic, but perhaps the second half was a little better.
Alisson impressed upon his return from an 11-game absence due to a hamstring injury, so Slot was at least pleased with his performance.
