Elliot Anderson sent Newcastle United an emotional parting message on social media.
From the age of eight, Anderson advanced through Newcastle’s youth and went on to make 55 appearances in the first squad. The 21-year-old has already agreed to a five-year contract worth an estimated £35 million with Premier League team Nottingham Forest.
The deal is Newcastle’s equal club-record sale following Andy Carroll’s 2011 transfer to Liverpool.
After the deal was confirmed, Anderson looked back on his time at Newcastle and shared a video of himself with the caption, saying, “It’s been a dream come true to represent my club for 14 years.”
“I will always cherish the moment I put on my black and white shirt at St. James Park. I want to express my gratitude to all the club members and Geordies who have helped and encouraged me along the way.
“I have and always will be a supporter of the club and hope for the best for all those connected. One door opens as the other closes. Many thanks, @NUFC.
“Gunna miss you lad 😔❤️,” wrote Anthony Gordon on Instagram in response to the parting message, for which Anderson provided the assist for his first goal for Newcastle.
Eddie Howe, the head coach, had much regard for Anderson and he was well-liked at St. James’ Park. Newcastle was compelled to raise money or face a possible deduction of points due to the Premier League’s Profitability and Sustainability Rules, which required them to sell players.
As a “last resort,” negotiations with Liverpool were even being held over the sale of a crucial player like Gordon. Additionally, Newcastle received £33 million for the 19-year-old winger Yankuba Minteh from Brighton & Hove Albion.
