Anthony Gordon finally breaks silence on Gareth Southgate and Euro 2024 snub

Anthony Gordon maintains The Euro snub was never explained to him by Gareth Southgate.

Gordon, a winger for Newcastle, was included in England’s team but only appeared once throughout the tournament—as a late substitution in the 89th minute. It followed after Gordon had the finest season of his life with Newcastle, with ten assists and eleven goals in 35 Premier League games.‌

But according to Gordon, England manager Gareth Southgate did not provide an explanation for why he was not given more opportunities in Germany during the summer.

“I was disappointed, because I believe in myself so much,” Gordon stated to ITV. Particularly at that moment in the season I had just finished, I feel unstoppable.Nobody seemed to be able to support me or stand by me for more than ninety minutes. I thought I was ready to win the trophy for the nation and truly dazzle everyone.‌

“It was disappointing to envision what I envisioned compared to what it was.”

Gordon responded, “Nothing, really,” when asked whether he had questioned Southgate or if the manager had given an explanation for Gordon’s exclusion. I never actually asked questions. That’s not exactly my kind of guy. All I want to do is finish the tasks at hand.

“Because I have confidence in myself, I was thinking, even from the bench, ‘If he brings me on, I’m going to be ready, I’m going to change the game.'” However, it did not occur.
