Update on Joe Rodon’s transfer announcement: Leeds United is vying with three clubs for the Tottenham star
Graham Smyth claims that Joe Rodon’s transfer to Leeds United is “just about there,” with the team expected to defeat three Premier League teams for the defender.
The financial offers elsewhere were “a bit more lucrative,” according to a July 1 Twitter post by the Yorkshire Evening Post journalist. Brentford, Leicester, and Ipswich are all potential summer destinations for the Welshman.
Smyth speculates that it might not happen “until tomorrow,” but an official announcement is probably coming within the next 24 hours. Rodon chose to return to Elland Road after a successful loan during the previous term.
Archie Grey is expected to move in the opposite direction from the 26-year-old [The Athletic, 1 July].
Brentford, Leicester, and Ipswich will lose to Leeds United.
Even if it comes with the departure of another player, Daniel Farke will be happy to have secured a vital member of his team from the previous campaign.
In what appeared for a considerable amount of time to be a promotion campaign, Rodon was excellent at the back under the German last season, playing alongside both Pascal Struijk and then-international teammate Ethan Ampadu.
Following Leeds United’s late-season collapse, which saw them enter the play-offs and eventually lose to Southampton at Wembley, exits appeared inevitable.
Fans did not anticipate Grey to be the most well-known player of the summer, but Rodon’s signing is a plus.

The fact that he wanted to return to the Whites but had other options—Ipswich reportedly had a £10 million bid rejected [Alasdair Gold, 1 July]—to stay in the top division will further strengthen his position in West Yorkshire.
In order to make up for the mistakes made in the previous season and make a comeback to the Premier League, Farke will now need to hope that he can recruit enough pieces around him this summer without losing too many more players.
In other Leeds United news, despite having finished a physical, a permanent Whites move exit has now fallen through.
