Alexander Isak Hasn’t Handed in Transfer Request Amid Liverpool Interest – Here’s Why

Alexander Isak made an inflammatory remark about his future earlier this week. The 25-year-old is presently practicing apart from Newcastle United’s first team after receiving interest from Liverpool.

The Swede was named to the PFA Premier League Team of the Year earlier this week, but he chose to forgo the awards due to uncertainties about his future. On the same night, Isak issued an explosive statement explaining his viewpoint and stating that his connection with Newcastle ‘can’t continue.’

He wrote: “I’m honored to have been named to the PFA Premier League Team of the Season for 2024/25 by my peers. First and foremost, I’d like to thank my teammates and everyone at Newcastle United who has encouraged me along the journey.

“I’m not attending the ceremony tonight. With everything going on, it didn’t feel appropriate to be present. I remained silent for a long time while others spoke. That silence allowed others to push their own version of events, even though they are aware that it does not accurately reflect what was discussed and agreed upon behind closed doors.

The truth is that promises were made, and the club has known about my situation for a long time. It is disingenuous to appear as if these difficulties are only just surfacing. When commitments are broken and trust is gone, the relationship cannot last. That’s where things stand for me right now, and why change is beneficial to everyone, not just me.”

Alexander Isak hasn’t submitted a transfer request.

Despite Isak’s declaration announcing his intention to leave the club, he has yet to submit an official transfer request. The reason for this has now been disclosed, and it is simple: it all comes down to money.

According to the BBC, submitting an official transfer request can result in severe financial fines for the player. It is a breach of a player’s contract, which means that a player may no longer be eligible for contractual bonuses such as signing-on fees and loyalty bonuses.

Isak is claimed to make £120,000 per week at Newcastle, before bonuses.

Newcastle Responds to Isak’s Statement.

Even though Isak has not officially requested a transfer, the club is aware that he is dissatisfied with his current situation. They made their position known earlier this week by responding to their star striker’s social media remark.

They wrote: “We are clear in response that Alex remains under contract and that no club official has ever made a commitment that Alex will leave Newcastle United this summer.”

“We want to keep our greatest players, but we also recognize that players have their own preferences and listen to their feedback. As we said to Alex and his representatives, we must always consider the best interests of Newcastle United, the team, and our supporters when making decisions, and we have made it clear that the terms of a sale this summer have not been met.

“We don’t see those requirements being met. This is a strong football club with proud history, and we endeavor to maintain our family atmosphere. Alex remains a member of our family, and he will be welcomed back when he is ready to rejoin his teammates.”

It remains to be seen whether Isak will still be with Newcastle when the summer transfer window ends on September 1, 2025.
