Chelsea are closing in on a spectacular move for Manchester United winger Alejandro Garnacho, after the Argentine signed personal terms with the West London club. The 20-year-old is now waiting for both teams to agree on a transfer fee before completing the transaction.
According to reports, United boss Ruben Amorim has informed Garnacho that he has no future at Old Trafford, with insiders within the club claiming that worries over the youngster’s attitude played a role in the decision. Despite this, the Daily Mail claims Chelsea has completed extensive background checks and is convinced any character flaws can be resolved.
Garnacho, one of the Premier League’s most promising young players, has made 144 appearances for Manchester United, scoring 26 goals and assisting 22 times since making his senior debut. His flair, quickness, and ingenuity have earned him a cult following, but his time in Manchester appears to be coming to an end.
Transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano confirmed to Sportal that Chelsea began official talks with the Red Devils earlier this week. Meanwhile, the BBC says that United are demanding a sum of roughly £50 million, despite Chelsea’s efforts to negotiate a lesser price. This represents a significant decline from United’s reported £70 million valuation of Garnacho at the end of the previous season.
The Blues have been active in the transfer market this summer, having already signed wingers Jamie Gittens and Estevao. They are also in advanced talks with Dutch star Xavi Simons, who can play in similar attacking situations, indicating that manager Enzo Maresca is assembling a dynamic and versatile forward line ahead of the 2017 Premier League season.
If finalised, Garnacho’s signing might be one of the largest this summer, giving even more firepower to Chelsea’s ambitious team overhaul.
