At the moment, we’re witnessing a slew of ex-players transition into punditry.
The media’s interest in the EFL remains as strong as it has ever been, with various past Championship, League One, and League Two stars frequently seen offering their opinion on the biggest topics and top stars now playing for one of the 72 clubs throughout the three divisions.
Reading’s former title-winning captain, Jobi McAnuff, ex-Birmingham City, West Bromwich Albion, and Hull City centre-back Curtis Davies, and former Ipswich Town stalwart Luke Chambers are some of the recently departed players who frequently appear on Sky Sports’ matchday coverage.
At the moment, the only thing on the minds of current players will be achieving their short and long-term goals for their current clubs and playing careers, though it wouldn’t surprise if a few of those names appear as analysts in the not-too-distant future.
That being said, Football League World has tested the AI-based chatbot, ChatGPT, to see whether it can predict one current second-tier player who is most likely to become a pundit after their on-pitch exploits.
AI forecasts Sheffield United ace Gus Hamer’s future career as a pundit.

There were various possibilities and logics that AI might have used to make its forecast, but it ultimately chose current Sheffield United star and last season’s Championship Player of the Year, Gus Hamer.
AI feels that the midfield maestro’s demeanor and present on-field skills would make him a perfect candidate for the post, with his aforementioned award demonstrating his strong tactical awareness, which would be useful and is typically one of the aspects that TV fans are most interested in.
Furthermore, it has been anticipated that the former Coventry City player will become a successful co-commentator due to the aforementioned skills and personality characteristics.
AI has also not ruled out Hamer becoming a regular fixture on our screens while still playing, which is not out of the question. Several players have done this in the past on weekends when their team is not playing or when they are recovering from a long-term ailment.
AI feels Gus Hamer stands out above other Championship stars for a future punditry role.

In addition to stating numerous reasons why Hamer would be great in the area of punditry, AI believes he stands out over fellow Championship stars in this profession, but believes they could become commentators in the future depending on circumstances.
The chatbot also mentioned Middlesbrough’s creative duo of Hayden Hackney and Finn Azaz as potential pundits, owing to their excellent reading of the game from deep-lying and advanced midfield positions. However, they are both significantly younger than the Dutch-Brazilian, so one of them could lead this prediction in the coming years.
It also predicted that Jay Stansfield, who provided a glimpse into his professional and personal life during a lengthy segment of Birmingham City’s recently aired Amazon Prime docuseries, would follow suit due to his ever-growing leadership skills, as well as providing insight into a completely different perspective as the Blues’ main forward and poster-boy for their rebuild under Knighthead Capital.
On the whole, these are all fairly reasonable calls from ChatGPT, and it is easy to see why they believe Hamer is the standout candidate right now, though it remains to be seen whether he would appear as a pundit in England or the Netherlands, with recent reports indicating that the playmaker would prefer to return to his home country if a move away from Bramall Lane occurred.
