Adi Viveash explains why Andy Myers was the perfect fit for Middlesbrough situation

Andy Myers is assisting Adi Viveash during his spell of caretaker leadership over the Middlesbrough first team.

Adi Viveash outlined why Andy Myers is the ideal candidate for Middlesbrough’s current position, with the interim Boro manager turning to an old buddy for assistance during his caretaker tenure.

Myers has joined Boro’s coaching staff to assist Viveash when he leads Boro’s first team following Rob Edwards’ departure. Myers is anticipated to support Viveash in games against Oxford United and Coventry City. Kim Hellberg is then set to be named Boro’s next head coach next week.

Myers has vast coaching experience following a great playing career, most notably with Chelsea and Bradford City. In addition to his long coaching career with Chelsea’s academy, where Myers and Viveash met, Myers has also worked as an assistant coach with Millwall and Vitesse.

Viveash revealed why he recruited him to Boro: “Andy and I previously worked together at Chelsea.” He played for Chelsea’s first squad as a kid and has worked in elite surroundings, developing several players. This is an entirely different scenario. But he’s a really calm man who understands me inside and out.

“He quickly picks up on how I work. So everything was smooth, if you will. It’s been nice to be back on the training ground with him. It made us both feel a little younger! He’s a really skilled coach, but an even better man, which was vital during this period because I needed someone I could trust to understand the game the way I saw it, especially on the practice field.

“We are just trying to add little parts. I am not here to recreate the wheel. I’ve been teaching here from the first day of preseason, so I’m not trying to demonstrate the guys I’m different.”

Viveash is anticipated to remain at Boro as an assistant coach following his hiring. It’s unclear whether Myers will remain or leave once the new head coach is in place.
