Adam Armstrong has issued an emotional farewell message to Southampton supporters in the wake of his deadline-day transfer to Wolves.
The forward has ended a four-and-a-half year stint at St. Mary’s with a transfer to the Premier League side.
It has been reported that a deal worth up to £9 million was agreed between the two clubs, with £7 million guaranteed.
Armstrong was a key part of Tonda Eckert’s first team squad at St. Mary’s, with the 28-year-old contributing 11 goals and four assists from 29 appearances in the Championship this season.
He was on loan with West Brom for the latter half of the previous season, during which time he scored three goals in 16 matches in the second tier. He returned to the Hampshire club after the latter’s relegation from the Premier League.
Adam Armstrong’s farewell message to Southampton fans

Armstrong has thanked the fans for the support he received during his time at Southampton, claiming that the club will always hold a special place in his heart due to both of his children being born there.
He has named being captain as the biggest honour of his four-and-a-half years at St. Mary’s, while also citing the play-off final as a particularly enjoyable win with the team.
“After five years here @ Southampton Football Club my time has come to an end,” wrote Armstrong, via Instagram.
“It’s been a rollercoaster of a journey for all of us.
“The highs and the lows.
“Thanks to the club for putting faith in me, the staff & players who have helped me along the way.
“The fans: I hope I have given you enough moments that you will remember, the goals, the celebrations, the misses, the wins and especially the play-off final.
“What an eventful day.”

“As a fan base, you are passionate and knowledgeable, yet you demonstrate compassion when we have encountered challenging circumstances.”
“The biggest honour given to me was I was able to captain this fantastic football club, not many people get that honour and I want you all to know I gave it my all everyday and every moment on and off the pitch and tried to represent you all in the best way I could.
“This isn’t a goodbye as our paths will cross not only on the football pitch but off it.
“Our two children were born here and as they get older we will always bring them back.
My family and I are embarking on a new chapter in our lives, but our time in Southampton has significantly enhanced our lives.
Armstrong has departed Eckert’s side as their top scorer in the league so far this season, with Finn Azaz second with a tally of seven.
The forward has also left St. Mary’s with the team sitting 14th in the Championship table, seven points adrift of the play-off places.
The Saints have faced a challenging campaign in their pursuit of regaining their place in the Premier League, and it has been frustrating.
Next up for Southampton is a home clash against managerless Watford on 7 February in a 12.31pm kick-off.

Adam Armstrong departure is a big blow for Southampton
Armstrong has been a critical component of Southampton’s team this season, and his departure is a significant setback to their prospects for promotion.
Although he has not been flawless, he still scored 11 goals before transferring to Wolves, and it will be difficult to replace an individual of his caliber.
A fee of around £9 million also isn’t that great for a player with a proven track record at a Championship level.
It is not surprising that supporters are frustrated by his sale, and this touching message from Armstrong shows that he is departing as someone that is well regarded by fans.
